Avi and I had a wonderful 3 hour hike this morning through Reserva Bosque Nuboso Santa Elena - Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve’s less popular sibling. In comparison to Monteverde, where there was a steady stream of cars and vans up the street to the gate at opening time, we were the only ones in the parking lot at Santa Elena, and we didn’t bump into anyone on the trail until we were most of the way done with our hike, We found 9 new species of birds for the trip, 5 of which were new to my life list!
Next we drop southwest to Cerro Lodge. New region with a new set of birds to find. And, we are back to the heat. In the few hours we’ve been here, I added 6 more species to our trip list, 3 of which are lifers - that was just walking around the property.
We are up to 175 species for the trip, 15 were added today, 8 of which were lifers. It’s in the upper 80s and sweaty - fortunately we have a/c.

I was sitting in the open air dining room, catching up on some paperwork, when Avi walked in and told me to look up - this beautiful Gartered Trogon was sitting right in front ofme and I didn’t even realize it! |
