August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021 seemed like a good year to chase birds around the U.S.A. - with the pandemic in full swing and my child in college on the opposite coast, I in theory would have the time to travel whenever and wherever to count and photograph birds. And I did, for the most part. And I was on a roll… until May rolled around and my world was turned upside down, again. For reasons I won’t explain, there was very little biding in June to Dec. I tried, but the universe conspired against me. So, I call Mulligan! (“Mulligan” is a golfing and curling term allowing a player to take a second shot from the tee without penalty. It it is similarly used in curling. Interestingly, according to legend, coined by Dave Mulligan in Montreal in the 1920’s… but I digress.)
I am re-starting my Big Year as of January 1, 2022 and my goal remains 500 species in 365 days.
