More city birds from the botanic garden and riverside park. It was pouring buckets this morning at sunrise at 5am. There were few birds out braving the rain. We got soaked through our gortex jackets. By 9am we were worn out and had sore feet so we headed back to the hotel for a morning siesta. Of course that’s when the rain lightened up. By lunch time it was sunny and 88°F. I made another attempt to pick up a few birds that we missed yesterday at the garden in the evening but they remained elusive. The universe did gift me close encounters with a Dusky Moorhen mom with two fuzzy chicks and a Bush Thick-knee with two recently hatched chicks. It was a fair trade. My evening was rounded out with four Rainbow Lorikeets flying right by me, so close in fact I was side-swiped with wing feathers.
22 species seen in Australia (all of which are lifers)
Rainbow Lorikeet - possibly the one that side-swiped me
Bush Thick-knees
Dusky Moorhens
Gray Butcherbird
Australian Pelican
Magpie Lark
Thanks for sharing your travels & birding in Australia! Sounds as if day 2 started off as a very wet one!
ReplyDeleteSo many lifers for you!
