#109 Rock Wren Tillamook, Oregon |
Earlier this month we drove ~2400 miles from Seattle to Monterey, California and back. We saw about 140 species of birds, 67 of which were new to my list. Mostly it was just good getting out of the house and going on an adventure. Here are a few highlights.
Least Sandpipers Drakes Beach, California |
Sanderling Drakes Beach, California |
#140 Snowy Plover Abbots Lagoon, California |
#149 Semi-palpated Plover Drakes Beach, California |
Dunlin Abbotts Lagoon, California |
Willets (in back) & Sanderling Monterey, California |
#121 American Avocet Arcata, California |
#144 Snowy Egret Arcata, California |
#147 Black Oystercatcher Monterey, California |
Red-tailed Hawk Gallinas, California |
#129 Western Bluebird Petaluma, California |
Bushtit Petaluma, California |
#115 Clay-colored Sparrow Arcata, California |
Wilson’s Snipe Merced, California |
Red-shouldered Hawk (fluffed up because it was in the low 30s) Petaluma, California |
This is what a average day birding looks like, bad lighting, birds too far away, and too many birds to easily identify. |
